Core Aeration & Overseeding
If you like having a great lawn, you’ve probably heard a few lawn care keywords, like do “aeration” and “overseeding”. Not only are these two services easy on the wallet, they are also instrumental to your lawn. 4 Seasons Services Aeration cost are less expensive than the average rental rate and much less work for you!
Lawn Aeration
Lawn Aeration is the most important step you can take towards a healthy and beautiful lawn. Your lawn requires cultivation to help improve soil conditions. Fertilizer will not improve soil conditions. Aeration builds a greater resistance against disease, insects, and drought. Ideally, the process should be performed twice a year.
Core aeration is the removal of small cores of soil and thatch in your lawn with specially designed equipment. The equipment has hollow coring tines that are rolled over the lawn, puncturing its surface and systematically removing small plugs of soil and thatch from the turf. The removal of these plugs makes the soil not compacted and the lawn allows air, water and nutrients to reach the root system of your grass. After aeration fertilizer and water use becomes more efficient. This contributes to a healthier, deeper root system that enables the grass to better overcome stress caused by insects, disease and drought.
Plugs should be left on the turf after aeration, as they contain soil microorganisms that will break down thatch. These plugs disappear in a short period of time when left on the surface. Lawn aeration works with or without seeding. This is why all golf courses aerate multiple times every year to achieve the best possible turf.
HOW WE PERFORM LAWN AERATION
1. Property inspection to take note of any potential risk areas.
2. A commercial Toro lawn core aerator will be used to aerate your lawn.
3. For corners and hard to reach places a smaller aerator will be used to ensure all your lawn gets covered.
4. We will clean sidewalks and driveways of any plugs and put them back to the lawn to allow decomposition. Soil cores are left on the lawn to break down naturally. The core natural decomposition is beneficial to your lawns overall health.
Overseeding
How do you achieve a lawn which is dense, lush and visually appealing? The answer is overseeding – the practice of sowing additional seed over existing grass to boost and restore your lawn.
Overseeding is a great practice because over time, the individual grass blades on your lawn weaken and die with age. Making your lawn vulnerable to disease, insects and weeds. Areas in your lawn which have damaged from extreme temperatures or heavy foot traffic also benefit from overseeding. It helps re-establish a strong foundation and improves the overall health and appearance of your lawn. Once the lawn is aerated, the seed should be applied as evenly as possible.
We use Scotts Grass Seed Mix to provide quick, dense grass coverage in sunny and shady areas. The seeds have been coated so that they can absorb 2x more water (than uncoated seeds) which will help you start to see results in 6-14 days!
